Remplazar un caracter por otro(s) en un string

Saludos, uso delphi 7 existe una funcion que me permita Remplazar un caracter por otro(s) en un string:

por ejemplo string original 'xxxxYxxxx'
obtener string 'xxxxZZZZxxxx' ó 'xxxxZxxxx'

ó

por ejemplo string original 'xxxxYxxYxx'
obtener string 'xxxxZxxZxx'
